Wedding Venue – Moda Events Portside

I feel like we’ve seen every wedding venue in Brisbane, but we haven’t!!

Last night, we checked out Moda Events at Portside Wharf and what can I say? It’s a beautiful venue!

They can seat up to 400 – but if you’re having much fewer than that they can divide the room to fit your function.  We’re having 300 people at our wedding, so it’s perfect sizing for us.

The good things:

  • Plenty of space in the function room – wooden floors, white pillars, beautiful decor.
  • Lighting – they have these funky giant square lights on the ceiling with colour projectors behind them so you can set a theme colour to run the entire night, or have different colours running – which looks awesome!! AND it’s included as part of the standard package.
  • Balcony – they have this ginormous balcony that runs the entire length of the function room – what they do is section off the function room for the arrival of your guests and put the blinds up so they can’t see what’s in the function room until it starts.  So your guests will be having cocktails and canapes out on the balcony, taking in the amazing view of the river and the city and then VOILA!! Function room is revealed

The bad things:

  • For a wedding of 300 people, space is everything! The way they explained the layout, we would have to have the dancefloor disconnected to the right and not in the middle of the wedding (which I wasn’t a fan of).  The reason for this is because otherwise, the table plan would be skewed to one side and the bridal table wouldn’t be centred.  So in order to have a centred bridal table and a normal table plan, you have to kick the dance floor out to one side….if that makes sense.
  • No menu tastings (NOOOOOOOO!)….but they do allow you to come to someone else’s wedding and taste the food there – they’ll set you up in a room and do it that way.

I do really like the place, so they’re on our shortlist.  This long weekend will be spent trying to make some tough decisions on reception venues!
